Week 1 Summary (March 24-28, 2014).
Six clinics (two diabetes clinics, one diabetes in pregnancy clinic, one diabetic foot clinic, two general endocrinology clinics) this week with total of 243 patients seen by our team (Helen Yifter Bitew, Abdurazek Ahmed Abdela, 4 Medicine Residents, Katy Brown, Mike McDermott). Among these were some severe Graves' disease cases, one severe Cushing's syndrome case in an 18 year old woman, congenital hypothyroidism and one case of a severe deforming metabolic bone disease in a 14 year old boy.
Two inpatient rounding sessions (one for Endocrinology and one for General Medicine). 22 patients were seen: many diabetic patients, several severe foot ulcers, one 80 year old woman with thyroid storm (storm score of 70), one diabetic patient in a prolonged coma from severe prolonged hypoglycemia, and several cases of leukemia and disseminated TB, and one case each of lung cancer, lymphoma, bacterial endocarditis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, hemophilia and one case of severe obesity with pulmonary hypertension in a 20 year old man.
